History of the Appenzell houses

A guided walk from Gais to Stoss offers unique insights into the history of the typical Appenzell house.

The trail starts in the village square, lined with baroque and neoclassical town houses.
The route continues through the scattered settlement of “heathen houses”, houses with sloped roofs and cross-gabled houses. The walk is led by architect and heritage conservation expert Thomas Künzle.

Price: 150.00 CHF per group
Route: village square – Hebrig – Rietli – Ballmoos – battle monument – Stoss stop – return to Gaus with Appenzell Railways.
