Barely have you left the last houses of the hamlet of Frauenrüti behind and crossed the adjacent meadow than the most spectacular section of the entire hike appears at your feet. However, only those with a head for heights are advised to cross the 180-metre-long bridge, as it spans the Mattenbach ravine at a height of 40 metres. The suspension bridge connects two villages, two cantons and two religions!

Step onto the suspension bridge in Grub in Appenzell, and leave it in Grub in St. Gallen. Continue through the village and on towards the “Fünfländerblick” (“five-state viewpoint”), where you can enjoy a phenomenal view of Lake Constance and the borders of five states (Switzerland, Austria, Bavaria, Baden and Württemberg). Then head back to the starting point of the circuit through meadows, forests and villages.
