Start your excursion at the Puppet Theatre Museum in the centre of Herisau (red dot on the overview map) and learn about this remarkable art. The lovingly designed rooms of the typical Appenzell house are home to a collection of around 500 figures from Switzerland and all over the world.
2. SWITZERLAND’S LARGEST INDOOR PLAYGROUND
Just a short walk away (approx. 15 minutes) is the Appenzeller Park (green dot on the overview map). Children can play to their heart’s content on the 23-metre-long wooden castle, the climbing volcano, the wobbly mountain and other exciting play stations. You can also purchase refreshments from the modern bistro, which serves a variety of drinks and food at family-friendly prices.

5. THE PEARL OF APPENZELLERLAND
After visiting Appenzeller Schaukäserei, it’s time for a little adventure on the Pearl Trail! Help Steini, the little alpine herder, solve a riddle at each of the 12 posts and find the pearls. This will set you on the right path and give you the answer. Once you’ve completed the trail, give the answer at the Appenzeller Schaukäserei to receive a little reward.
