Urwaldhaus - Wirtschaft zum Bären

A house full of history, culture and possibilities.
So close and yet far away from the everyday.

The «Wirtschaft zum Bären» (Bear Inn), better known as the 'Urwaldhaus' (primeval forest house), is one of the oldest buildings in Rehetobel. Records exist back as far as the 16th century. The house has been an inn since 1805. The inn became legendary in the 1950s and 60s through its landlady Frieda Fässler, known as 'Bear-Frieda'. This story-telling lady knew how to draw her customers under the spell of this special place. Following her death in 1966 the council bought the inn, recognising it as a building of great cultural interest. It has since been run as a simple inn. The Urwaldhaus offers a rustic and romantic location for the Swiss card game of Jass, for fine food, choice drinks, interesting encounters and conversations, for cultural exchange, for a chance to wind down, or even for events or courses.

For restaurant guests, the "Bären" offers three cosy, rustic rooms for overnight stays. The bathroom with shower is for single use on the floor.
