Textile village - tour through Rehetobel

Rehetobel - a tour back in time to a former textile village.

At the beginning of the 20th century, Rehetobel was a centre of the Swiss textile industry. Initially weavers worked as contractors for the large trading and textile companies in St. Gallen, Trogen and Speicher; embroidery was later added and the locals started trading in their own right. On this tour you will learn about the lives of the weavers and the embroiderers as well as about the area's local economic, architectural and social history as part of Eastern Switzerland's textile industrial past.

A visit to the Walter Sonderegger AG embroidery company can be booked to follow the tour. The company specialises in high quality embroidery for lingerie and ladies’ fashion. As the company is located outside the village, your will need your own transport to get there.

Duration: approx. 1 ½ hour for village tour, 45 minutes for embroidery company visit.
