On the Appenzeller route through the finely structured landscape.
The first stage of the tour through Appenzell is rather short. Escape from urban St. Gallen via an iron footbridge, 100 metres above the Sitter river and with a view of the wild ravine and the bathers far down in the river. Stein AR is reached via lush green hills. In the show dairy there, you can watch Appenzeller cheese being made.
After the descent down to the Sitter, you enter Innerrhoden territory via the old wooden bridge. The road to Appenzell winds through the finely structured landscape. At the entrance to Appenzell, the route turns off and climbs the hillside to Lehn. A detour to the village centre of Appenzell with its quaint townscape is definitely recommended. The wooden houses in the main street tell their stories on painted façades with bold colours and ornately forged signs.
On the way along the small road over the Lehn, you can experience the concentrated charge of rural romance once again: dung sticks, tinkling cowbells, free-standing chapels, Alpstein panorama. From the assembly point, the route follows the main road to Gais.
