Appenzeller E-Bike Route

Experience the unique feeling of riding an electric bike and explore the three highlights of eastern Switzerland: Lake Constance, the Appenzellerland and the UNESCO world heritage town of St. Gallen. The approximately 40-km route is ideally suited to a day excursion, for groups and individual travellers alike.

Your FLYER electric bicycle will await you at Romanshorn station, and the tour commences on the cycle path along the idyllic shores of Lake Constance. In Rorschach harbour you will board the nostalgic mountain train with your FLYER electric bicycle and travel 523 altitude metres up to the Biedermeier village of Heiden in just over 20 minutes. From Heiden, the tour (signposted no. 998) leads via Oberegg to the panoramic restaurant on St. Anton mountain, where you can change your battery (closed on Wednesdays). You will then cycle to the former cantonal assembly (“Landsgemeinde”) village of Trogen. From there you will head towards Speicher, where the route turns left for Teufen just before the village centre. From Teufen you will continue to ride through the Appenzell hills to Haslen. Leaving Haslen, you will head for Stein. The Appenzell demonstration cheese dairy is worth a stop! Here you can also change the battery. After crossing the 98-metre-high Haggen bridge you will reach St. Gallen town.
