Featuring a magnificent panorama from St. Margrethen to Appenzell
From St. Margrethen, one last look back into the St. Gallen Rhine Valley and soon the route takes a steady, undulating course through the gentle hilly landscape of the Appenzell region. On the way, you’ll pass through the Biedermeier village of Heiden, the Zellweger palaces and the Pestalozzi Children's Village. For an overnight stay, we recommend Teufen, Appenzell or the tradition-steeped town of Urnäsch. To make the first approx. 400 metres of altitude a little easier, you can shorten the first stage by enjoying a scenic rail journey from Rorschach to Heiden.
