Kulturwerkstatt - customs and traditions, Zauren and music

The Kulturwerkstatt culture workshop provides unique insights into the culture of the Appenzellerland.

We host entertaining talks and guided tours in the spacious workshop building where once Werner Alder, dulcimer maker and member of the famous Alder string dynasty, crafted his instruments. The tours provide you with a fascinating insight into the world of the hammered dulcimer as you immerse yourself in the soundscapes of the unique Appenzell folk music. In addition, you can also learn about two other very special ways of making music, Talerschwingen and Schellenschötte.
The tour finishes with a walk through the workshop. Join us for this truly authentic experience of local folk culture!

Guided tours for groups:

- Presentation on dulcimer making
- Presentation on dulcimer making and Appenzell traditions and customs (with additional information on traditions and customs, music and Talerschwingen)
- Course in yodelling and Talerschwingen

On request, the culture workshop team can also serve local speciality snacks or an aperitif.
