1. HIKE TO THE KING OF THE ALPSTEIN (3 HRS)
Begin your trip on the Schwägalp and hike past the Tierwies inn to the summit of the highest mountain in the Alpstein range (green line on the overview map).
As the shortest connection between the Schwägalp and Mount Säntis, this route involves a steep ascent, so hikers will need a head for heights! Steel cables are provided for safety over difficult sections. The tight climb up the mountain is rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view.
Important information: This is a mountain hike.
2. TOP VISITOR EXPERIENCES (3 HRS)
The summit of the Säntis offers spectacular views, of course, but also remarkable insights into the weather.
The fascinating new visitor experience at the top (yellow dot on the overview map) makes such awe-inspiring natural phenomena and their elemental forces on the mountain palpable. The interactive panorama tour, featuring guessing games and experiments, guides visitors through the dramatic weather experienced on Mount Säntis.
3. FLOAT INTO THE VALLEY (10 MINS)
The Säntisbahn cable car takes visitors back down to the valley in comfort. During the 10-minute ride, you’ll soar over the mighty Schwägalp (black line on the overview map).
4. ALFRESCO DINING (3 HRS)
What could be better than sitting outside on a balmy summer evening and being pampered with culinary delights?
Enjoy an exquisite meal on the restaurant terrace and end your evening with a cool drink.

After a nightcap, you fall into bed tired, happy and content.
You can even make your night’s rest a truly memorable experience by sleeping on straw! Spend the night in the hayloft at Lillybeizli (purple dot on the overview map).
Next morning, set yourself up for another eventful day with a hearty breakfast of fresh regional produce.
6. DISCOVER THE APPENZELL HINTERLAND BY BIKE (6 HRS)
After breakfast, get on your bike and discover the most beautiful spots in the Appenzell hinterland.
On the Hinterland circular route (yellow line on the overview map), you’ll enjoy stunning views and visit villages including Herisau, Schwellbrunn, Urnäsch, Hundwil and Stein. Alternatively, you could also start your trip in Urnäsch.
7. A HIKE WITH A DIFFERENCE (1–3 HRS)
In the afternoon, visit the farm park in Urnäsch (brown dot on the overview map) and hike with llamas and alpacas over hill and dale. Before you set off, you’ll learn about llamas, alpacas and trekking over an aperitif or coffee and cake.
You can also book a fondue or barbecue in the forest for after your trek.
