Appenzellerland for families – 48 hours
1. PUZZLING AWAY
Your excursion starts at Schwellbrunn, the highest village in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden. The little wooden hut at the Halden car park is the start and end point of two different puzzle trails. Stüpfi’s Family Puzzle Trail (yellow line on the overview map) is a lot shorter than the other and is especially recommended for families. There are all sorts of exciting puzzles for you to tackle and solve along the trail.
2. MOVING ON WITHOUT PEDALLING
Continue by car from Schwellbrunn to Urnäsch, where you can visit the Appenzellerland’s first pump track (red dot on the overview map). This course offers lots of fun for all the family. You get around it by “pumping” – moving your body up and down, rather than pedalling – tackling waves, curves and even jumps along the way. You can do it with kickboards, inline skates, skateboards, balance bikes, BMX, mountain bikes and more.
3. AN OVERNIGHT FARM STAY
Spend the night at a farm that offers bucolic calm and contact with the farm animals.
4. TREASURE HUNT
The Detective Trail in Urnäsch starts at the Reka Holiday Village (orange dot on the overview map), where you’ll find the first puzzle. After that, please follow the directions. Along the way, you will pass numerous stations with more riddles and clues to help you solve them on the spot. You’ll find a treasure chest at the end of the route.
5. FUN, PLAY AND RELAXATION
After the thrilling treasure hunt, head to the sports centre in Herisau (blue dot on the overview map). The children splash around in the pool with its amazing children’s slide, while the adults relax in the sauna or on the sunbeds.
